Minecraft Pocket Edition: Hints, Tips and Guide

As Minecraft Pocket Edition has expectedly proved popular on Ipad, Android and iPhone there's become an enormous need to have a "Minecraft Pocket Edition Guide/Walkthrough" . Gametrender hears the call and delivers with the most up to date info for the popular MOJANG game which is now eating up our mobile lives too. (UPDATE: dUE TO NEW IMPROVEMENTS IN MINECRAFT pe WE NOW HAVE A GUIDE TO CRAFTING ,SMELTING ETC. ENJOY : http://www.gametrender.net/2012/08/minecraft-pocket-edition-guide-to.html

Minecraft Background
You know why you're here and that's to find the best app hints , tips and secrets for the iOS/Android version, but a quick intro to Pocket Edition first. We all know the original free roaming block builder which caused an internet sensation. The Pocket edition was originally released last year Minecraft Pocket Edition on the Xperia Play. The lite version didn't include the much needed mobs and had limited blocks to play with. Other Android Phones and an iOS Minecraft version soon followed and the latest version even includes mobs with the addictive Minecraft survival mode now included.
Differences Between Minecraft Classic and Pocket Edition
If you're a Minecraft Veteran don't expect to be an instant expert at the Touchscreen game version as there are many differences:
Sword is quickest to  kill mobs (two hits).Axe takes 3 hits. Pickaxe  4 hits. And shovel takes 4 hits. Fist (or blocks) takes 10 hits.)
Tricks, bugs and secrets of Minecraft Pocket Edition that can be exploited
Trivia
  • The only Lighting blocks available in the Pocket Edition are:Torches, Lava and Fire .
  • If you want the full Minecraft experience then you'll have to go for the paid edition as you are limited to 27 Blocks  in the Pocket Edition Demo.
  • You can't share save files between Minecraft Pocket and the PC version, cross compatability is something that is desperately needed for an update as so many players have invested so much time on the PC version, rather than the relatively minimal time on the iPhone and other stripped down versions.
  • You can have skins on the IOS version by replacing char.png in the app file.[18]
  • You won't be able to see fire in the Pocket Edition unless you place a flammable block next to fire.
  • Don't let the frozen lava fool you, it will move if forced.
  • The auto jump feature won't work on leaves if you go from a standing start with the best graphics on.
  • You can't burn a Minecraft Zombie mob if it's in water.
  • Shear a sheep to get white wool Minecraft blocks.
  • The app won't register leaves as having any solidity so you can't place a torch on them.
  • At last the new Minecraft pocket Edition has a day/night cycle (well when else did you expect the mobs to come out?).
  • Zombies Mobs emerge at night, but expect a few hanger on Zombies to be lurking in the day too.
  • When flying, if you double-tap the up key, you will ascend. If you double-tap the down key, you will descend
Ipad Minecraft Pocket Edition Hints
There are some strange things that can happen in the iPad version of Minecraft, a savvy player can use these iPad flaws to his advantage
1) Sugar will float on water. You can place sugar cane on snow, but if you place a second one next to it the first disappears.
2) If you build a tower on the edge of a world you can traverse off the edge but you can't fly up or down.Walk too far and the app crashes.
3) In both the  creative mode and surival mode, if you break the block a torch or ladder is on, or you place one under water, it will become something that you can collect
4) In both creative and survival, fence with no other blocks with in the same altitude or higher of a radius of ten blocks (half a circle surrounding the fence), the fence will not render but rather become 'invisible'.
5) You can't place torches on fences
Mojang reports on Minecraft Pocket Bugs and gives advice
Here's the latest word from the app developers that should give you some advice about improving your Pocket Edition capabilities:
  • Some resources cannot be picked up (cloth will be pickup able when crafting is introduced)
  • If you were on fire when you died you would respawn on fire
A lot of people have reported that you can't fly in Creative which is wrong. First double tap the jump button. Then you double tap up and or down to go up or down
Which Android Phones will Minecraft Work on?
I think minecraft pocket edition wont work on phones under 800mhz cpu ,also  Android OS 2.2 or later
- The device must have a CPU that supports floating-point calculations ("ARM-v7a code")
- The screen must support multi-touch
According to the official Minecraft Wiki the official phones that Minecraft will work on are:

  • Sony Ericsson Xperia Play[15]
  • Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray[16][17]
  • Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro[17

  • How to Play Minecraft pocket edition on iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch
The system requirements for the iOS version of Pocket Edition are:
    • An iOS device with iOS 4.3 or newer (Armv7 Only).
    • 4.2 MB of available storage space.

      1. THERE ARE NOT WATER BLOCKS OR LAVA BLOCKS.
Torches are the only source of light you can create.
ON YOUTUBE THERE ARE LOTS OF VIDEOS TO TEACH YOU HOW TO CHANGE SKINS
I haven't but my friend did.

      1. Hi Sandy thanks for reading, we've looked long and hard into this problem and it doesn't seem to be a bug registering anywhere else. This is perhaps the only explanation that could be causing his Pickaxe to misbehave: In the iPad (and iOS in general except there is a smaller hotbar) hotbar, the left-most item's touchable area extends far to the left of the edge of the button, to the point it actually overlaps the DOWN button. Pressing the right edge of the DOWN button triggers both the DOWN button and selects the left-most item in the tool bar at the same time because they overlap. This results in accidental selection of the left-most item over and over again, which can interfere with gameplay when an item is accidentally used when not intended.

      1. We've looked into it and it seems that the seed with the most diamonds is Horrid Seed.

      2. A good seed would be jpgaming (no caps), when you spawn the first time on the world dig straight down wherever you spawn, you will eventually hit a 2 by 2 block of diamond

    12. I have a bow and arrows. How do I use them?

      ReplyDelete
    13. How to use a Bow and Arrow in Minecraft PE: Hold the bow and arrow in first person view, now hold your finger on the screen and it will zoom in and automatically loose. Apparently a good way to make a safe firing platform is to usea ladder and then build a platform half way up the ladder. This will give you a nice, safe vantage point to ate or mobs. Remember skeletons are tough so need two arrows to take them down.

    14. What can I do with iron ore? And how do I find iron?

      ReplyDelete
      Replies
      1. Look up our guide to crafting ,smelting etc. linked at the top of the article, it should answer your questions about iron and more.

        Delete
      2. put the ore in a furnace and "cook it", iron will come out and you can use it to make tools/weapons and armor (armor is only in updated version 6.0.0/6.0.1)

    15. How do I make trap doors?

      ReplyDelete
      Replies
      1. I've done a lot of forum reading to try find the answer to your trapdoor problem, the two answers that I've come up with are conflicting. One source says that the developer forgot to add trapdoors in version 0.4.0 and they will only be available in 0.5.0. Assuming they are there they need to be wired into redstone circuits to activate them. (are trapdoors available in the crafting menu of your version?)

        Delete
      2. Yes I can craft trapdoors in my update 0.4.0 and it seems as though I can activate them just by clikcing on them. I cant mine redstone yet.
Bytheway, Thankyou for your help in answering my and other questions. Better than the forum.... Artimus

        Delete
      3. Glad to be of help Artimus, I think that the red stone fix for trapdoors is to activate them automatically when a mob passw over(I stand to be corrected!) what other game guides and articles would you like to see on Gametrender?
