How do you finish Tiny Tower?

Does Tiny Tower ever end?

I was warned before I began to play Tiny Tower that it was very addictive. I didn't realise how addictive until I found myself waking up in the morning and checking my Tower, if I woke up in the night ditto. And for frequent periods throughout the day. Does Tiny Tower ever finish? It seems not and building the tower has become an obsession, that's why the final thing I'm going to do before I delete Tiny Tower from my iPhone forever is share my experiences and how much/little I've achieved.
There I've just restocked my Tiny Tower shops for the last time and now very soon I'm going to send my Bitizens to their digital heaven where they can shop and work to their hearts content. As we speak the tower has 64 floors and 115 Bitizens, I've never paid real money to get Tower Bux and have always relied on making my Bitizens happy by placing them in their favoured jobs and doing the finding chores to get Tower Bux. My favourite Bitizen is Willie Fleming, who for reasons only known to himself,dresses as a ghost. Terry Burton , an old Bitizen with a blue moustache and an orange baseball cap was one of my originals and is also favoured. Overall I think my creative and service floors of my Tiny Tower have earned the most money, Food floors aren't really much of an earner. Probably the biggest earners in my Tiny Tower are the Architect Office and the Dentist. Even though I like Mexican Food in reality I just found the one in my tower a bane as initially the "Chips and Salsa" quickly sold out with I think a 6 minute turn around. I can't remember which Elevator I have , but it's gold and does 16 people a minute and cost me 125 Bux. I thought as a personal challenge I could buy the best Tiny Tower Elevator, but whe I paid 125 Bux for my latest the next one on offer was the Infini-Light Lightspeed Elevator which as it costs 499 Bux , would probably take me another 3 months of my life to get!
My only regret as I'm about to delete my Tower forever is that I never, despite having so many floors, got the right combination to complete any of the Tiny Tower Missions.


It's been fun , but has proved far too addictive and obsessive so here we go: The App icon is wobbling and has the "x" of deletion in  the top left corner and now the message "Delete Tiny Tower" has come up and pressing delete ....now! Five star rating yes, certainly, but now to find a better use for my spare time and off to find a new app obsession!

Free Smashing Magazine for iPad and Kindle Fire-And why a Kindle cover is essential!

Ebook readers are quickly becoming the norm. Amongst these of course the original Amazon Kindle ranks foremost, but thanks to the iOS Kindle App, the iPad is quickly becoming a swift alternative e reader.

The beauty of E-books, whether they're free mobi format ebooks , which can be read by Kindle, or the popular epub format is that they're swift to produce and distribute. Of course electronic books don't take up the same space as traditional paperbacks and hybrid books have even started to be produced. Many book apps for Apple have been recently featured on Gametrender and have proved to be very popular downloads.Whilst I personally prefer Science-Fiction and Fantasy ebooks (I'm almost at the end of the brilliant Malazan Fantasy series by Steven Erikson that is on my Kindle, amongst my peers I've also found George RR Martin's Game of Thrones on a number of their Kindles and on some Luddites coffee tables in the form of (gasp) paperbacks). However, most of my recent interactive book app reviews have been for Children's ebooks on iPad , not quite my idea of late night reading-but the kids do love this new form of hybrid book.

I'm on a prolonged business trip at the moment so am highly reliant on my Kindle for entertainment as I can't lug around the six books that I would read in two months for lack of luggage room. On a previous business trip I hadn't yet got my Kindle, so had to rely on the Kindle App for my iPod Touch . The Kindle App of course works just fine, as you'd expect from an official Amazon reading App. But the natural limitation of ebook reading on an iPod or iPhone is the small screen. Many people complain that the backlight on the Phones screen hurts their eyes when they're reading iPhone books , but I never found that problem.
 That said,  I still favour my Kindle over iOS e-reading as the e-ink the Kindle uses shows up a lot easier in bright light such as the sun, and of course the almost month long battery life is phenomenal. I highly recommend the Official Amazon Kindle cover though. For two reasons the Kindle cover is an essential purchase: Firstly if you're going to be doing any sort of e Book reading without a source of light you're going to be reduced to going old school and using a torch to read your Kindle. While this is of course quaint, reminding me of childhood , geeky days of reading under the bed covers while supposed to be sleeping, I'm now 34 and this is 2012 so reading habits need to progress after all!

Of course when I slightly baulked at the price of an Amazon Kindle cover I still had a bit of last year's Christmas money left over and took the plunge to buy a cover for my Kindle. My Father-in -Law went in the opposite direction and bought a cheaper unofficial Kindle cover. After two months he'd seen the light, literally , and swopped his unofficial Kindle cover for an official Amazon cover. Firstly as I'd already pointed out the official cover with it's grainy leather is a lot more robust and just nice to touch . On a tactile level the Official Kindle cover just blows away the competition . The colours are really nice too, I chose a modest dark blue cover for my Kindle, whereas he went for the traditional black,leather Kindle cover. There's a range of colours too (I agonised for ages over whether my e-reader cover would look better in burgundy,burnt orange but finally compromised on a blue Kindle cover!)
Now aside from a lovely feel to the official Kindle Cover the other major advantage and the reason that my Father-in-law soon discarded his cheaper cover is the backlight. A very bright back light which fortunately mostly illuminates the ereaders page( a bit of light spill can keep your partner awake , but nothing turning on your side to read won't fix) Even though the dad in laws cheap Kindle cover had a built in light, this light ran off penlight batteries and soon drained of power. The official cover slots nicely into the Kindle with two little copper tags and the cover's light is actually powered off of the Kindle's own battery. With very little to no depreciation of the Kindle batteries awesome power. So all in all highly recommended, the

Now I haven't just written this article to sell you a Kindle cover! So back to my previous analysis of ereaders! Now that I've got a Kindle the only thing that slightly disappoints is the lack of colour. Not a problem for generic ebook reading but I really do love my comics and that is where the iPad or Kindle Fire come into play. Both present exceptional ways to read a graphic novel on an e-reader and definitely will be explored further in a follow up article. Valentine's Day App Update : A Boy/Girl Love Story on iPhone

Valentine's Day is almost upon us and how better to celebrate this Romantic Day then with a Valentine App Update for one of the sweetest and most Romantic apps we've recently seen? Boy Loves Girl was recently released onto iTunes with much critical acclaim-not the least from Gametrender. This game will be an inspiration for those attending online school for video game design. As it not only encapsulates the spirit of gaming traditions but is a masterclass in fun programming design.

Slang for soldier if you didn't know) challenges normally always involve large amounts of alcohol and sometimes grievous bodily harm, but many of the challenges seem to involve food for some reason. Hence the Picture of 'Biscuits Brown' up top-the legendary British Soldier ration biscuit, unpalatable to man or beast, think compressed sawdust with a hint of cardboard and you get the idea. Here's your first challenge then: The quickest I've seen a pack of five biscuit browns eaten is 1 minute forty seconds, the rules are that they are to be consumed by themselves , no sauce and certainly no water. Up for that challenge: Then prove it with a pic and submit to Leap otherwise it don't count.

Superb marketing by Sony, wysiwyg(what you see is what you get) is strangely enough a concept not properly explored in the App Development game as developers try more and more outlandish names to make their creations stand out. Mobile Genres : Endless Running

Depending on a platforms capabilities there have always been certain genres associated with different platforms. The Nintendo Wii for example will always be associated with motion control games, normally of a childlike persuasion. Pc games will always be known predominantly for RTS and other mouse friendly games.
Touchscreen mobiles in the relatively short time they have been around have carved out a surprisingly large amount of genre niches. That is not to say that these types of games only exist on this platform but it would be hard to argue that touchscreens aren't the best suited for them.
This article is another one of our series articles in which Gametrender will discuss some of Smartphonings favourite genres. The one that is up on the podium this week is 'Endless Running'
A very reviewer friendly genre as it does exactly what it says. The character normally runs from left to right with inputs from the player normally limited to single finger jabs usually associated with an action like jumping. Scores are normally totted up by how far the character runs and the challenge is tempted up by adding obstacles along the way.
So far so simple, so you'll be asking what's good about it and why should you play it. I've chosen a brilliant endless runner called DIVERSION  https://market.android.com/details?id=com.ezone.Diversion&hl=en   as an example to show exactly how good a polished version of this genre can be.
Diversion is by far the best endless runner I've played. At first appearances it's apparent how much effort has gone into the game. The graphics are superbly rendered in 3d being easily on par with a mid generation Playstation One game. The music is all jingly and bouncy filled with adrenalin and hinting at the potential for manic kinetic energy.
The avatar you play with has a lot of personality. A female protagonist has been chosen perhaps in a cursory head nod to the legendary Mirrors Edge. The avatar its imbued with personality , and adding to the games sense of polish and fun is upgradeable. With lots of different outfits waiting to be bought or unlocked. Not only that but part of the fun is that each outfit bestows different skills which it is up to the player to find out.
On to the game itself, firstly it must be pointed out that it has lots and lots of levels, hence a lot of longevity.
Of course it wouldn't be up to much good if the levels lacked variety, but variety they do have in bucketloads-floating minse,slides,jumps,warps,ziplines to name a few. Timing is crucial on each of these as you attempt to get the highest score.

Android Games on holiday

Mobilephones have in recent times joined the staples of a man's pocket, adding to the dynamic duo of keys and wallet most people wouldn't consider leaving the door without their mobile phones also.

These miniature computers,thanks to app access now have virtually unlimited uses: communication device,gps,alarm,camera,watch being among some of the most basic functions that we can enjoy. However there are some hard engineering facts that stop us using them to their full potential: they're just too damned easy to break!

Engineers have done a superb job in recent use in making mobile components faster,cheaper,more reliable and ever more powerful, however there is a pressing need to make them much stronger. Recently on holiday I was spending a lot of time poolside and down the beach. I'd unconveniently forgotten my camera at home, but whereas my mobile normally quite easily fills that gap I was reluctant to expose it to the sand and heat of the beach. Swimming laps in the pool I thought to myself that my experience would be enhanced if I was able to time my laps using the phone or listen to music. With its built in accelorometer it would have also been great to have an app that could analyse my swimming stroke and give me advice. That app sadly will not be invented for the forseeable future as phones are not pool friendly. Even sat relaxing around poolside I was reduced to reading a Kindle as in direct sunlight my xPeria Play's screen was just too hard to see.

Again on a bicycle tour down the Majorcan coast I was reluctant to bring the phone for fear of knocking it, on another note functions such as Google Goggles and Google Maps would have made the bike trip more enjoyable, but international internet access rates are far too steep to to be using the bandwidth for such activities.

From humble beginnings: Traditional gaming inspiring app gaming

Android gaming and smartphone gaming is arguably one of the most cutting edge fields in entertainment today, a developer has the ability to virtually create a game within a few hours, the tools and technology that developers and gamers have access evolve at a phenomenal rate. And more importantly unlike traditional gaming industries the Android market has a massive amount of freeware resource tools to draw on. But there is one issue that no amount of cutting edge tools can solve: that of creativity. The ideas of game designers must come from somewhere, recent games I've played give a very strong case for traditional non technological games being a very good source of inspiration.
  Pocket  Soccer by Rastergrid Entertainment http://rastergrid.com/blog/ especially got me thinking about this issue. The game it must be said is very good, with a slick presentation, three difficulty levels, lots of playability and polish. Of note was the way the game was played, on a simple playing field players take it in turn to push one of the players represented by a disc with the teams flag on it, to score goals. The influences are two fold with traditional football being a clear influence, flick football being another and interestingly enough the Rts staple of turn based games. Arguably without the developer drawing on these influences, whether consciously or not, the game of  Pocket Soccer would not exist.

Crazy app downloads:Why did I do that?

Have you every looked on another persons phone? Not their messages or voicemail but actually what apps they have downloaded? It can be a very illuminating and sometimes downright scary experience. At a barbecue this past weekend it was getting to that time of night when most if not all conversations were exhausted and people were starting to deploy their smartphones enmasse. Another observation of the smartphone generation is that in one way they are very similar to baby boomers of a previous generation. It's never uncommon at parties of a certain age group for those with babies to trot them out and expect coos and aahs and suchlike from their captive audience. Well the smart phones who are infant less have found a way to retaliate! They bring out their phones, only of course if they are new and shiny enough not to be an embarrassment (the equivalent of a baby with a scary looking rash?) and like the other unlucky bloke across the room being regaled with baby stories the smartphoner feels obliged to show you what apps are on their phones. Well at this particular barbecue thankfully all the infants had been put to sleep leaving me at the mercy of a smartphoner. That is why at one in the morning I found myself being bored to death by a man smashing virtual bottles and being equally mystified as to why a thirty something year old would be deriving so much satisfaction from a talking, farting, drinking dog that you can beat up!
